Mateo is a jaguar who was born on June 6th, 2016, at a zoo in Phoenix, Arizona. He made the voyage to Panther Ridge Conservation Center when he was 4 months old to be a part of our family forever. As an adult he has the strongest bite in the cat family, but he mostly uses it just to snack on beef and carry his toys around his enclosure. He was raised with our cougar cub, Meeka, until they both hit sexual maturity when Mateo was introduced to our other jaguar, Onyx. Together Mateo and Onyx love to chase each other around the pool but a majority of the time you will catch Mateo snoozing away on his perches.
